Percy Peacock is a Sydney based burlesque performer who competed in the inaugural 2019 DIY BurlesKoala competition. She describes her usual burlesque style as “comedic and quirky.” I asked Percy about her experiences competing in the 2019 DIY BurlesKoala Competition.

Why did you enter DIY BurlesKoala?

PP: A challenge!

Where did the inspiration for your act come from?

PP: Mortgage prices

What was the biggest challenge you faced in creating your DIY act?

Finding an old doona to stuff inside the toast

What was the biggest achievement or win you had in creating your DIY act?

Made people laugh about a difficult issue of housing

What was your favourite aspect of competing in DIY BurlesKoala?

The challenge of keeping the costume cheap but relevant

What advice would you give someone considering entering?

Strip the act down to its key components and build from there. What’s the purpose of 50000 props?

Have you performed your DIY act again, and if so, where/ when? If not, do you hope too?

Use something other than gaffa type to hold my avocado butt to my body
