Ophelia Sass is a Sydney based burlesque performer who competed in the inaugural 2019 DIY BurlesKoala competition. She describes her usual burlesque style as “Cheeky, Sassy and modern meets bluesy and musical theatre.” I asked Ophelia about her experiences competing in the 2019 DIY BurlesKoala Competition.
Why did you enter DIY BurlesKoala?
OS: For a new challenge and some excitement
Where did the inspiration for your act come from?
OS: Feminism, independent and empowered women and calling out the injustice of privilege.
What was the biggest challenge you faced in creating your DIY act?
Definitely the sewing and DIY aspect as I have “two left thumbs” (basically I am in no way able to sew haha!)

I loved watching all the competitors working together and helping in the Facebook group and on the night
