It’s best to say my mind has not been at its sharpest lately, if anything I’ve been a very Forgetful Mae – which is the name of an act I do where I come out in heels, a gstring and pasties having forgotten my costume.
But that’s not the act in this picture though 🤣 No, this is a studio shot I finally got to do of my Fringed Blues traditional act that I performed at Miss Burlesque New South Wales back in 2018 and won me the title of Duchess of The New Zealand Burlesque Festival.
But I realised the other day, I’ve performed this a couple of times lately, like in Brisbane for The Vaudeville Consortium, and have kept finding spots in my choreography that felt lacking, which is always disappointing to feel.
Turns out I had forgotten one of my favourite moves from that act! 🤣😂 I remember working on this with a number of people, but Sheena especially helped me plug a choreo gap with this fantastic skirt-come-cape overhead swirl which I absolutely love doing. Can’t believe I forgot that 🤦🏼♀️ but it’s back now!!
It’s also been a time to remind myself of a couple of things – like I have to be kinder to myself when I forget stuff, and acknowledge or scrutinise what’s causing me to put stuff off. It’s been a time of late and while I’ve wanted to just cancel the lot and pack it all in, I am reminded that this to shall pass and I’ll be back to my usual self soon (I hope soon! 😳😱)
But I have things I want to do, things I need to do, and so many goals I want to kick this year, starting with supporting and lifting up some kick arse amazing students at Muse School of Burlesque now in both Wollongong and Sutherland. I think today is a corner, I can kick myself in the butt (so conveniently framed here by my amazing fringe belt butt reveal) and help the next generation of Burlesque babes make their mark on the sparkly world.
And to everyone I’ve forgotten to do stuff for or have been slow or vague – sorry! Promise I’m getting back on track.
