Sparkling show set to see Sutherland shimmer and shimmy.

The Sutherland Arts Theatre (formerly the Sutherland School of Arts) will transform in to a glittering burlesque house as Hot n Fresh Burlesque descends upon the Shire this week.

The Shire’s Showgirl Mae de la Rue operates the Muse School of Burlesque out of both the Shire and Illawarra. She delights in hosting performers from across Australia and around the world at her shows and to run workshops for her students. Imagine her delight when multi award winning AFAB Drag Artist Jackel Doll decided to join the cast!

Often asked “whats on in the Sutherland Shire?”, as a primarily commuter location, there has previously been little to entertain the locals. “The Sutherland Shire is a bubbling place with exciting new arts precincts and facilities” said de la Rue and is keen to encourage audiences to discover the glamour of burlesque at the newly refurbished Sutherland Arts Theatre!

“It’s the perfect setting for cabaret and burlesque! The finishings, decor, and interior really add a lush feeling to a show and help the audience step back in time to enjoy the art form” she said of the newly transformed theatre.

Not only is she planning bring glitz and glamour to Sutherland – an exciting fancy for the locals – but the Muse School of Burlesque also hosts workshops and classes for any budding enthusiast or passing interest in the fabulous world of burlesque. Two troupes of eager learner burlesquers from Sutherland and the Illawarra will grace the Arts Theatre stage, one with a magical theme with fluffy feather fans, the other with a ghoulish vampire theme, for the Queens of the Night.

For learners, no previous experience is required, and participants enjoy a safe and private learning experience with likeminded individuals. Performing with the troupe is always optional, but often sought after!
